Colette & Matt Have Entered the Chat

157 Who Cares About Atari or Intellivision?

Episode Summary

Plus: I helped squash an indie game bug!

Episode Notes

Colette's Internet pooped the bed right as we sat down to record this week, so Matt flies solo to wish a happy "Paper Mario" day to all who celebrate. Will you be binging the "Thousand Year Door" this week?

In the news, IGN Entertainment (owned by Ziff Davis) has acquired all your favorite video game publishers, including Rock Paper Shotgun, GamesIndustry.biz, and Eurogamer.  Details are still emerging, but it's hard to imagine this won't suck for everyone involved, including readers of these important journalistic outlets.

Speaking of acquisitions, Atari has acquired Intellivision, which begs the obvious question: Who cares? And ... why? Interestingly, the merger does NOT include the upcoming and long-troubled Intellivision Amico console, which will need to be re-branded. Weird.

Meanwhile, Matt shares his new obsession with the indie survival craft-em-up "Space Trash Scavenger," where you suck up garbage from planetary orbit and recycle it into a kickass space base. Think: Loddlenaut + Hardspace: Shipbreaker, with a really innovative gravity/physics system.

Also cool: My obsession with framerates helped the game's dev squash an interesting physics bug!
